According to this week's Grazia the average British woman has spent £250 to look like Kate Middleton. Pretty much everything Kate's photographed in sells out in an instant (see her blue Issa dress and Burberry trench coat) and her influence has reportedly brought in a total of £1 billion to the British economy. Those are some pretty impressive stats if true. Well done Kate!
The only thing is I can't think of a single woman I know who is genuinely influenced by Kate's style. I think the Duchess of Cambridge dresses beautifully, but so far I have spent £0 trying to "Get The Kate Look". Are you influenced by Kate's style? Have you ever bought something she's worn? What are your thoughts on this story?

I'm sorry to say that but I find her style extremely boring. Of course she has to wear formal clothes, but they don't have to be boring right? She should take some style lessons from the gorgeous Michelle Obama.

I'd probably need to save at least 4 months by starving to buy the clothes which she wears but I can buy dupes of her clothes. I don't care what she wears. I totally agree with Mar. She looks elegant but boring. <3
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's becaus i'm dutch, but i don't wanna look like kate, it's boring the way she looks. I think that almost no one in the Netherlands wants to look like her or is trying to look like her.

I'm a huge fan of her style, she definitely influences my style!
ReplyDeleteI think Kate Middleton's style is perfect for her role in the public eye. I think she only becomes 'boring' in the eyes of the fashion public because people assume she's trying to be fashionable. I also have to give her credit for representing the high street so wonderfully. It's refreshing to see someone with money not stick to the high end so often. She always looks chic and elegant to me!
ReplyDeleteI've never even acknowleged the way she dresses...so I agree with above, her style, or lack of, is boring...but good for her for becomming a style icon!
ReplyDeleteReem Kanj described Kate's style perfectly. She dresses beautifully and elegantly regardless of her status. Her status may lend itself to a certain look, but it's not boring. It's not daring, but I wouldn't expect of even want that for her. What she wears seems to be a reflection of herself - one of grace and elegance. I personally wish Michelle Obama did NOT dress as she often does as her style choices are not a reflection of the general American public. Her way of dressing, whole undoubtedly chic and put together, does not reflect well on America.
ReplyDeleteShe always looks perfect in everything she wears but she doesn't influence me at all. Saying that, I am not at all surprised with regards to the effect she has on countless other females XX
ReplyDeleteI don't know anyone who's specifically bought things to look like her either. I think she always looks lovely, and if anything she's inspired me to try and look more 'groomed', but I haven't bought anything so far to actually achieve her look.
ReplyDeleteI think instead of being directly influenced, women have made an effort to look a bit classier just in general. Not meaning that women in the UK looked like hags before, but I think the style of clothing available currently is less slouchy and more 'regal' if you like.

I think magazines are constantly telling me I should dress like her, but my mum (who's 50) probably has more in common with her wardrobewise then I do.
ReplyDeleteKate has a good body so clothes look good on her. She doesn't need to dress for anyone, and though her taste is classic she always looks appropriate for the situation. People who would try to dress like her or copy her style would IMO be someone who hasn't a clue about fashion to begin with.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Cassie said. She inspires me to look more groomed, but I'm not dying to copy her wardrobe. I think she has to dress in an understated way because of the economic times but it doesn't need to be so boring. And it annoys me because part of me believes there's an Alexis Carrington in her just bursting to get out.

She does always look so groomed and sophisticated..which is something I can only dream about! Personally, I don't think I'll ever find myself trying to replicated her style though.. it's a bit too ~Classy~ for everyday wear..unless you're a duchess hah xx
