To Crop or Not, That is the Question

Crop tops are back, in a very small way. So far I have seen them in magazines and a few shops, but I haven't actually seen anyone wear one. Maybe that's just because it's March?
I'm rather excited about this comeback - this summer I think I will go for the crop. I know others aren't so excited about the prospect of showing off their stomachs though, and Kate Bosworth came up with a good solution, just wear a crop top under a longer top.

You could create her look so easily. You don't really even need to buy a crop top - just chop the end off an old tee.
I'll be channeling the Queen of the crop top, Carrie Bradshaw. She cropped it a few times, but season four in Prada (above) was one of her best looks.

As with all trends, Topshop is so far doing the best selection. I'm sure I saw a polka dot crop top for £14 in a magazine from Topshop which was so cool, but it sadly isn't online.

So will you crop or not?

  2. Kate Bosworth def does an easier alternative! i still cant decide..partly because i'm slightly cringing from a few crop top outfits i wore in my teen years! i'm sure this time around it will be a far better experience.

  3. Ive done croped tees a bit this past summer, mostly either with a sheer black body suit underneath and highwaisted cutoffes (so only a wee bit of midriff visible) or over a tight bodysuit. Takes a bit of effort to look proportioned though! but sweet once it works. Have also worked out an awesome outfit of grey loose cropped tee with a black leather bra over the top and high waist cutoffs. looks fab!! You should def do the crop sweety!

  4. Kate looks great in the crop top.. and since here in the tropics it is summer already, you have definitely inspired me to work the crop into my outfits. I'll keep you posted.. but I think I might try it with a long circle skirt. Thanks for this =)

  6. Crop! Last year I was really into wearing crop-over-longer-shirt but it's kinda hot for this summer. Darn global warming. Btw, can we link?

  7. Crops are cool but dangerous; you need a well-trained stomach otherwise it looks terrible.
And yes, I'm going to try to make one at least.

  10. I have such a long torso, so crop tops... eh. They don't look so good on me. But I love the way it looks on Kate, with the tank underneath. I would totally rock that with one of the Topshop crop tops (hah!) especially the blue one.

  11. Snap! I've got a crop post up too, and I'm loving them!

  12. Fab post! I will crop, but only with another layer underneath - not a big fan of the exposed midriff except on the beach!

  16. Great post. Though anything remotely relating to SATC is great. I personally like the £10 black hook eye one. That image of SJP in that outfit always sticks in my mind as one of her defining looks.

  22. LOVE Kate Bosworth's take on cropped tops! But, personally, I wouldn't! I would be too self conscious!

  23. Bahh, you gotta have abs or at least no belly fat to pull of this look!!

I don't like it anyway, too britney spears in 90's ( baby one more time, anyone?)

  24. ah probably not, at least not yet. haha but i like the kate bosworth idea.

  25. The SJP choice is cool, but only if you have good abs :D so probably not the best choice for me! and btw. I love your Hit/Miss- stuff! You're always right

  26. I've always always loved that outfit Carrie wore. So cute. I would love to crop but unfortunately I don't have the abs to do it and Wellington is entering autumn/winter...

  32. Hi Coco
I like the look but in my case I'll go for the Kate Bosworth solution and wear a crop top under a longer top.

  33. I've had a go with doing this, layering the cropped tees is fun and makes them so versatile!

    ReplyDelete
  34. A tad dangerous if your abs are not up to scratch, but you can layer them beautifully. I looove the blue topshop top.

  35. I never thought about doing the crop top, but I love the way Kate Bosworth wore hers.

    ReplyDelete
  36. i love the acid wash topshop one, and i also love another of theirs which is a vest, with the eiffel tower on it.

however, the only way i would crop, it to wear something extremely high waisted underneath as to not show any midriff at all!

    xx

  37. I like Kate's way, but I'm not really into what SJP's wearing. I don't know, I've never really liked the cropped tees?

  38. Hey I fancy cropping it, quite fancy the floral oversized one from Topshop...but I don't know if I'm brave enough to wear it alone...might wear ala Bosworth but with a bodysuit underneath or something...

  40. Oooooh yeah I'm cropping!! But I kinda need to work on my abs, I'm hoping that buying a couple of cute crops with force me into action

  46. No thank you! Haha I'd be doing the world a favor by sparing them the sight of my unfit tummy!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes, I will crop!! It can look quite old-fashioned if you combine it with mommy jeans but I think with a high waisted short or skirt it could look good...BUT only if you're really skinny which I'm not :P

    ReplyDelete
  48. NO! lol i feel strongly about it too!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have to say I am not a fan of the crop top, it's not a look that works for me, I don't think.
