Attending the the opening of the Chanel boutique on Robertson Boulevard last night was Michelle Trachtenberg; and something surprised me. It wasn't the fact that after a few episodes on Gossip Girl she is already being invited to Chanel events(that's fast fashion for you), it was the fact that she was wearing a skirt, but you couldn't see her knees!

I don't think I have seen anyone under 40 hide their knees in a skirt for a long time. And instead of making her look frumpy it actually looked young and effortless. The simple tank, high waist and slim belt help keep it modern and unfussy.
And unfussy it is: Just look at the models are Prada and Marni, accessorised with patterned tights, muted colours on top and skinny belts the look is fresh and interesting.
It seems the way to wear skirts from now on is below the knee. Time to say goodbye to the mini for a while...
Best place to look for below the knee skirts? Charity shops!

Very cute skirts ;)
ReplyDeleteThis look is very cute but I think not easy to style because it doesn't go with everybody.I'll test it but I think I'm to small.
ReplyDeletei hope michelle keeps up her winning streak. i wonder who's styling her, any ideas?
ReplyDeletethat's a really good conclusion dear
ReplyDeleteI agree, charity shops are great. Love this look, scored a skirt a while back ago in this lenght for 2dollars. But I will keep the mini a little longer..
ReplyDeleteI really love this look - marykate wore it a while back for the libertine for target launch
ReplyDeletei think it looks best with a simple black tee and loads of gold jewelry
great tip about the charity shops!
ReplyDeleteits where all the grannys' skirt suits end up.
The gray skirt is simple and wearable with everything.
ReplyDeleteThis can be a tough length to wear, but she does look great here.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep exhibiting my over-40 knees in minis until the summer is over, then I'll get all my longer-than-knee length skirts back out for fall.
ReplyDeletefabulous looks. LOVE.
ReplyDeleteShe's fashionably bi*chy. She's into dark and neutral hues on and off screen and I don't have anything against it because it totally compliments her skin tone and eyes.
ReplyDeleteUsually I'm afraid to wear below-the-knees skirts and dresses because I think it makes me look shorter. But I can fix that problem just by wearing taller heels!
ReplyDeletehmm, i'm kind of torn on this look. as much as i think showcasing certain unexpected body parts can be alluring (like a write or ankles), i don't know how flattering this would be on a lot of women.
ReplyDeleteBelow-the-knee skirts is one of my favourite looks ever! It's just so classic, feminine and elegant.
ReplyDelete*Sigh*...if only this style would catch on with Brit Brit and crew so we'd avoid any future risk of exposure to their pink bits! ;o)
I like Michelle Tratchenberg's look a lot!
ReplyDeleteBut I don't I could pull this off - I've got slightly larger calves which I think means my ability to wear skirts is limited to either rather short or quite literally on the knee. Annoying? Yes.
Lol.

p.s. not usually a Marni fan, but those two outfits I quite like.
I quite like the trend. But you have to know how to keep it fresh and young so you don't end up looking like a granny!

You are right, I feel jealous when they go to openings and events just because they are in a tv show...
ReplyDeleteHooray! I hate my knees, they look like wrinkly doorknobs!
ReplyDeleteYay! I've been wearing below the knee skirts for some time now, i feel so much more comfortable in them..
ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning this important trend! I absolutly agree with you. I don´t think it´s appropriate to show them everytime everywhere... ^^
ReplyDeleteyou really know a lot about fashion
ReplyDeletei love your blog :)
keep up the fab work
I love your blog too! I am gonna try over the knee skrits one day!
ReplyDeletei'm happy that the mini skirt is going out.... i'm a little tired of seeing up everyone's skirts. there are some cute longer skirts at gap if you are ever looking for a more casual one! and i linked you i love your blog!
ReplyDeletelonger skirts look awful on me, especially since I'm only 5'2. But the skirt looks great on michelle!
ReplyDeletei luv these figures on the runway but i find it higlhy dangerous for the rest of us! just yesterday i was telling my best friend not to buy a skirt hiding the knee. you have to be really tall, skinny plus wearing heels so as to be not granny-like. don't you think? i wouldn't dare although i'm not short.
ReplyDeleteI like her look! Very chic!
ReplyDeleteI like it
ReplyDeleteuhhm..
ReplyDeletei just came on here expecting to see your hit and miss post.
but it is saturday.
where is my head? this is what study leave does for you! frazzling!
xxxx
i wish I could pull off knee length skirts, unfortunately i'm way too short! michelle is working it!
ReplyDeletexoxo
True about the length, as long as they keep it a bit shorter than those calf-length ones...
ReplyDeletei love this look. obviously it needs to be worn with heals, but it works great with someone with long legs. i love the belt michelle trachtenberg paired with it. she looks surprisingly effortless. love it, cant wait to try it.
ReplyDeletecordie xx
Love this post. I have these two paper-bag waist skirts from BCBG Max Azria, and they're below-the-kness. :D
ReplyDeleteLoveee Halle Berry's dress. Not a huge fan of SJP's. I agree with the Olsen verdict!
ReplyDeleteI like it better on the model then I do on her!
ReplyDeleteI've been wearing short skirts almost my entire life so this is a trend I highly welcome. With a fabulous pair of heels, of course!
ReplyDeleteI'm very into the mid-calf length at the moment.... does stump the height but I don't really mind...
