I brought the latest copy of Glamour today for a guilty fix, and ended up in a fashion strop! Stomping my feet and getting ready to tear the magazine apart I read their annual 50 best dressed list. Which was just awful!
I'm not into listing who's the most fashionable because apart from anything else it isn't very original (who doesn't have a best dressed list now?) but I'm going to have to now, just to prove how wrong UK Glamour is.
Sure there is nothing wrong with Jennifer Hudson (number 36) or Jessica Biel (number 41) or even Ashlee Simpson (40) but they are a little dull (Jennifer) frumpy (Jessica) and childish (Ashlee) to be voted higher than Kate Bosworth who was 49, and Kirsten Dunst who only managed a 46. Any list that rates Beth Ditto (number 24) higher than Mary-Kate Olsen (number 25) is seriously flawed.
And if you care who the winner of this terrible list was it was Kate Moss, which I'm sure you could have guessed anyway.
If it was up to me this is what their top 10 would have shaped up like:

Glamour's list is terrible. What were they thinking?? I think i'd pretty much put the same people on my list as you put on yours. I really like Ellen Pompeo, but thats possibly because i'm obsessed with Grey's Anatomy...
Thandie Newton? I think she just hasn't been around long enough to make big fashion mistakes....
I'd pick your list over Glamour's any day. they just go for mainstream crowd pleasers. The only one I don't agree with is kate Hudson, she's a bit safe, but apart from that its a very good list.
Every month I buy Glamour and every month I end up wondering why. Didn't it use to be much better? I dunno. Plus my copy this month didn't even have the best dressed supplement. The swines. Like your list tho, expect maybe for Thandie N who gets on my nerves.
Diane Kruger and Ashley Olsen were missing? Zut alors! I think Glamour's living in the dark (or the people who compiled the list are blind?).
Glamour's list was the worst one I've read. I still can't believe they didn't have Diane Kruger (who never looks less than glamorous!), Ellen and SJP (she always looks so cute and put together.)
And seriously, as much as I love Kate Moss, can we please stop putting her in the top ten already?

I quite agree with your list and I find glamour's list shouldn't even be worth talked about.
Of course Ashley is always my top 1! And, then, I think I would've put Thandie lower on the top 10, let's say under SJP. My personal add would have been Katie Holmes.

i do agree with your list however the glamour vote is voted for by more than just one person and is a general public vote so you cant blame glamour if thats what people voted however as someone said about it is more of a hows popular. i also think that how thin some celebs are such as ashley and mary kate and kate boworth as they look anorexic not that kate moss isnt very thin either. how knows! cant believe diane kruger is in there! i would have alexa chung in yours as well! x
Glamour's list seems like more of a popularity contest than a style evaluation. I can't believe how many were excluded. Um, hello...ASHLEY OLSEN??? Who in their right mind would keep her off their list?
I love the style of Rachel Bilson, Kate Bosworth, Alexa Chung, Kate Moss and Kirsten Dunst. This is my top five.

I agree with you for the most part on your top 10 and 100% agree with the crapiness of Glamour's list. How on earth can Diane Kruger not be present and Ashlee Simpson is??? Mind boggling.

i am a huge fan of glamour but i must agree with you about their list. i think your list is absolutely right on, except if it were up to me, SJP would be #1 since i'm a die hard fan of her style.

I'm pretty shocked that Ashley Olsen and SJP were not on the list. That's strange for sure.
I would only switch some girls' places, other than that my list would have been pretty much the same as yours. Glamour's #1 is kate moss? How boring... She IS good, but give us something new, duh..
How could ashley not be on the list? They are just trying to stir up trouble between the girls, they always leave one out. Some of glamour's choices are questionable and kate as number 1? She has good style but I don't think she's origional or takes many risks like Sienna.
I was a bit surprised that Chloe S. wasn't on here - I love Chloe, but I don't know if she would be in my top 10 anyway, though I thought she would have been in yours...
Anyway, awesome post!! I loved it, so fresh even though it's an idea that everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon of these days. I definitely agree with Ashley being number 1 - in fact I agree with every single one of your choices.
I probably would have put Jennifer Garner on mine, and maybe Heidi Klum.

Perfect choice, and you really highlighted the fact that there is NO ONE ELSE LIKE HER, which is quite an acheivement a mon avis.
That's the difference between her and most of the girls on Glamour's list; they pretty much look the same as every single sixteen year old girl at my school, which is not such a good thing, and you wouldn't look twice if you saw them walking down the street.
I kind of, however, understand the absence of women like Carine Roitfeld and Emanuelle Alt; 99% of women in Britain have probably never heard of them, even if they are the true style icons.
Also, magazine rivalry! Why would Glamour put the editor of one of their rival magazines as their best dressed?? It would surely be like admitting defeat.

I don't really care about the Olsen's but any Best-Dressed list without Diane Kruger in it is just seriously flawed and limited.
My list would compile of those who do not rely on stylists on a day to day basis. Anyone who has a stylist can look look. Hell if I had one I'd be in that top ten!! I havent seen the full list but was Agyness on there? I personally dont like her style but at least it is individual..

I love your list, although not Thandie Newton. I don't like to rank people, so I'd just say who I'd replace her with: Agyness Deyn, Natalie Portman or Leighton Meester.
I completely agree with you on how wrong Glamor got it. It's gotten to the point where I no longer read best dressed/ worst dressed lists. In a sense, I guess it really is in the eye of the beholder. I guess it means that the critic's eye is looking at the from a totally different angle to ours!
This is a fab list, and thanks for drawing my attention to Thandie Newton, I love her outfits and the bright colours she's wearing in these photo's.

i like your list additions but i would have to honestly put bilson and sjp higher, and omit pompeo and kate hudson (honestly her style is a little too blah for me)

your post inspired me to search this top 50 best dressed! i only found a top 10, and to be honest i dont think Kate Moss deserves the number 1 spot... i don't know who does but I know there are alot better dressed than her at the moment... I think Rachel Bilson is fantastic right now.. and of corse the Olsen twin. I Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Aniston could be replaced in the top 10... and maybe Reese Witherspoon... no matter how much I love her! haha i think the magazine has judged on red carpet events were as i judge on candid shots, great post!x

I'm impressed with your list but would ditch Kate H and am never sure about Kate B which means my two rear guard replacements are....alexa chung - as the KB replacement and then shock horror Carla Bruni-Sarkowsy for giving a new main stream glamour that includes Dior - the oh so gorgeous Dior not trashy Dior of recent years.

i think the glamour list is voted on by the readers? i'm pretty sure it is. this is why it annoys me that people look to it as a definite list, i just really don't trust some peoples taste and i think it would be interesting to see who glamour would put at the top of their list, rather than the cop out which is saying who their readers have voted for. kate moss number one? yawn! her style hasn't changed in ages, and by this i mean she always seems to wear the exact same outfit. i do like your list, i'm not sure if i would put it in the that order, but everyone has their own tastes! great post anyways. x

Who decides these things anyway, sounds ridiculous to me. Not to mention that in almost all cases these girls have stylists that play a heavy role in how they look so really, is this a vote for that person's stylist?
its interesting how both the olsens have similar tastes, such as their fondness for black white, and occasional colour but recently its ashley who's beeen coming out with more unique looks.

The girl's second name is style! Alright, maybe she doesn't take much risk, but she is so elegant and sophisticated I don't even wanna blame her for not stepping out of her Chanel comfort zone too often. (and then again she has a contract with them so she HAS to wear the brand)
Clemence Poesy is a little frenchie to keep an eye on, she sometimes looks like a mess but sometimes also pulls off great things. Hope she made the list, I'll check that out once I'm back in the UK.
(but then again, what do I know about fashion icons, I still adore Chloe Sevigny although everyone thinks she is a hot mess)
my friend read me the list over the phone and we were both shocked at how celebs who were, yes 'stylish', ranked highly were mostly just wearing nothing out of the ordinary. I have to say that streety style and blogger style has become a bigger inspiration to me than the current celeb 'icons'.
