Yesterday driving home with friends we started talking about Agyness Deyn. Funnily enough two of my friends started talking about how annoying she is when she makes her fish face, which I was complaining about last week. One of them then went on to say that she cannot dress. So she may be shocked to learn that Agyness was given the title of best dressed female by Tatler; ‘shockingly’ beating Kate Moss.
I think every woman’s magazine now has its own annual ‘best dressed list’ even the really cheap ones like Closer probably have some sort of ranking system when it comes to female stars. And the winner is always Mossy, which makes me think they should just do an annual Kate Moss issue – I would personally hate it, but it would probably sell well. I got bored of Kate Moss a year ago, and I now only rarely see a picture of her and think ‘wow’. I don’t know about you but I do think it is time her crown was given to someone else, but is Agyness the right one?

She definitely has a very individual style, which she has to be given credit for. But there are other models out there who also dress well. And unlike Agyness their style is a bit more workable for the ‘average woman’. I personally do not see the readers of Tatler walking about South Kensington dressed like Agyness anytime soon – or ever for that matter.

It is interesting that the top two places this year were held by models not celebrities. Perhaps models find style comes to them more naturally as they spend everyday in the bubble of fashion? Do you think they are more inspirational than celebrities?
I think I am split in the middle, as most models seem to have fabulous style (from what we see, you have to point out they don’t get snapped 24/7 like celebrities) but there are still stars who do just as well like Diane Kruger, Penelope Cruz, Ashley Olsen….
I think there is room for everyone. And lists? So not fashionable anymore!

I need to get this off my chest!! As much as I think that Kate Moss is over rated, over exposed and pretty much over everything else, you cannot doubt that she has a style of her own. Aygness Deyn looks like exactly what she was before she got lucky; a girl from a chippy. Everytime she speaks I lose the will to leave and as for her dress sense - ugh!!
I love Kate Moss, she is perfect EVERYDAY, i mean, she's soooo lovely
I think that models as a rule are always better dressed than celebrities. They take more risks. I'm not really embracing Agy, I can already feel the backlash coming. But I adored Lily's style, better than Agy, I say. Another thing I adore? That new header!
C.
great pics!
I'm totally into model style on the street!!!
totally agree with the list thing! and of course. everybody has their bad dress up days.. celebrities as well as common people..
lists are so overrated and I don't care abou them at all. Agree totally with you about this point.
Ah great discussion point. Have to say over Moss 2 years ago -she bores me and her ubiquitous style is now over done on so many lumps and bumps. Agyness - well anyone who can't spell and has a made up name durr! An amazing frame and great catwalk look but style - please it's so not!
The other pics were good to look at and I liked the Gemma Ward one - something understated and clean about her look. I think you can like whom you want but models do have the edge. Actresses need to sort out and mix up their stylists!
Really like the pics.
Hmm, lots of food for thought!
I was kind of surprised about Agyness.
I'm torn as to whether or not I like her; but sometimes I think it looks like she just threw on half of her wardrobe without though purely with the intention of looking "eclectic".
But I don't think being a style icon has anything to do wiht how well other people could wear your look. In fact, I think the more unique the better, so for this I guess she is a deserved winner.
Models and celebrities can share the pedestal, though really as both they're styled and and given freebies, I sometimes think us "civilians" deserve a bit more credit where it's due!
bye bye Chloe! The new header is great; how very nineties! (that's a good thing)
and ha, at people thinking it was you, can they not recognise the world's best paid legs? lucky you for the fooled readers, nonetheless!

sheesh.
seriously.
the more I blog, the longer my comments get.
I don't know if this is good or not, but I apologise for my not so up to scratch editing skills!

I think Ilike Sasha and Gemma the best in the pics you've shown, probably Sasha actually-she looks really exotic.
I have a soft spot for BFF's Gemma and Lily. I also adore Stammy's street style but ugh, can't see the brilliance of Agyness. She's just soo annoying, I don't know why.
I've never really been a fan of Kate Moss, but I kind of like Agyness' style even though I probably wouldn't pick her as my best dresser, I like Lily Cole's style, and Gemma Ward.
I like how Aygness is totally fearless when it comes to dressing, but I don't know if I'd necessarily consider her best dresses.
Overall I find celebrity styles more interesting (if they're not constantly being styled by someone like Rachel Zoe). I think most models kind of dress like each other.
i totally agree! while engaging, agyness deyns fashion sense does not translate to the average woman. the thing that annoys me about the "best dress list" and models/actors/editors being applauded for their fashion sense in general is these women not only get given a ton of free clothing/handbags/shoes/etc but they also get paid to wear it! and they work with stylists every single day! if you are part of this world there is no excuse not to be dressed above average, you own dont own much below average!
I think everybody agrees on Kate Moss being cool, you may like her or not, but everybody recognizes she is cool. Agyness?? ok, she has individual style, but is that style cooL? I don't think so. I was so shocked last year (June issue Vogue UK) when Agyness got the cover, and in a report inside she said her favourite jeans were one pants with bananas on them. Is that being cool? I thought: "you must be kidding me!".
I think models are more stylish than actress, because is more natural. I mean, actress work with stylists, but models work on their style on their own, so it's better -at least to me-.
i like natalia vodianova's style quite a bit, off the catwalk.
lovely pics, nice blog! wud be back soon
i love sasha's outfit!
Passing on that title was a mistake. The closest I can think of it Irina. But honestly Moss transformed the personal style sphere and I just don't see anyone doing that today...
im getting really sick of agyness, im just not a fan of her look
i completely would not say shes best dressed
that was poorly constructed haha
I AGREE WITH YOU
she's the it girl of the moment, but that doesn't mean she's on the same level as moss. if she's still everywhere in 4, 5 years like Moss is and has been, then I'll grudgingly agree to her new title.
considering models...i think Sasha is pretty inventive with her outfits
The designer freebies helps quite a bit...
I love kate moss as well, although she is rich, gorgeous and talented, I still can't dislike her ;)
lucky you, my friends have not idea about models
Great post, loved the pics!
I've been a kate moss fan since ever but i confess i'm starting to be tired of her (her life etc). Although, I still think she has a cool style. But I also think that lots of celebrities and models have great styles too and maybe they should get some credit for it!
Agy has a cool funky style but not so "down to earth". I dont think she is the best dressed model or she ever should be considered that.
Sasha Pivovarova looks amazing in that pic and so does Lily and Chanel!
Good idea for a post Coco.
Yeah, I got bored with Kate Moss ages ago too.
You know what model I think looks fabulous? Irina. (She has a Romanian last name I can't possibly spell). Very rock and roll and personal.
I'm sick of all those blonde models from Russia who all look exactly alike.
I kind of dig celebrity fashion more; because although there are a few models with great styles, most of them just play their natural beauty and grab random/crazy items and call it "different"; ie agyness. anyone else would look like a clown in the junk she wears. I like kate because her outfits are more wearable then anyone elses, she doesn't wear much statement pieces, she wears basics and we take inspiration from the way she combines those. what makes kate cool is that she looks like "not trying at all" while agyness&likes look like "tying TOO hard"..
Loved the post.
I think Agyness is quite cool but there is something on the clothing department that just doesn't work for me.
It's true that most models are not as photographed as the most-wanted celebs, but I reckon the very stylish ones could very well be positioned next to the Olsens, for example. Lily Donaldson, maybe?
xx
Amazing post! Love all the looks! They have such a great style and amazing Wardrobes!
I love kate's bag!
their clothes hanger bodies probably
just make anything cool. Err Kate Moss is just boring now.
I really do think that models have better style. For one thing they're in the middle of the fashion world, so their work is their playground, and their bodies the canvas of course!
I wrote a post about this detailing the reasons why i think models are more super duper than celebrities. yeah i cant find a more emphasizing word. so.
They probably cant afford to hire a stylist, especially the new ones. and i noticed that they're all unique. Not like the carbon copy celebrities we see everyday(Does the name Rachel Zoe ring a bell?).
I have never found Kate Moss all that stylish. She just looks bored (and boring)and high all the time....
but what do I know?
a huge YES!!!! they are more inspirational than celebrities...
maybe its just me but I think agyness really looks better in hard edged steetwear.
I tend to find models' style more inspiring than celebrities, but Agyness leaves me cold. I think Erin Wasson and Lily Donaldson always look cool. I always wonder if it's the model or the clothes, though. Would the look translate to the average woman?
Hello - first time posting, you have a fab blog on here! Fancy exchanging links?
Quite frankly I think the only person worth topping the list is Alexa Chung at the moment. Although not strictly a model, she has the balance of mainstream and quirky, indie appeal down to a T. She might not take too many risks but her style can appeal to pretty much everyone.
MOdels really have a great sense of style, and it seems they don't just wanna wear what everybody else is wearing. Their originality always stands out!
Good post!
Way more inspiring than celebs...they just "get it". Except Moss, who has been insanely boring for the past two years.
